Today, I Hate Facebook

I am passionate about Social Media. I love almost everything about it, and I spend a large part of my day using it, researching it, connecting on it, and experimenting with it. I can’t say enough good things about it.

My all-time, favourite social media platform is, without a doubt, Facebook. I’ve connected with long-lost friends, made some brilliant new ones, learned a ton about untold numbers of things, and laughed right out loud through Facebook.

In addition, I’m a “professional Facebook User”. I use it to build my business, and the businesses of others. I ALWAYS work within their guidelines, and ALWAYS encourage others to do the same. No “black hat” techniques from this user – no way! What’s more, I love the results I get for myself and for others. Facebook is, without a doubt, one of the best business building tools around. I’m crazy about Facebook.

But today? Today I hate Facebook.

Why the sudden change? Here’s the story:

Yesterday I was working on a Facebook page I administer. I was trying to do the simple task of adding a picture. I’ve done it a thousand times. It was never an issue. Yesterday, however, no matter what I tried, FB would NOT post the picture. I tried one more time, and then it happened. Boom! FACEBOOK BLOCKED ME!!

Now, I wasn’t spamming. I wasn’t friending strangers. I wasn’t posting obscene pictures. I wasn’t annoying anyone. I was trying to use Facebook’s own tools to do exactly what Facebook encourages. Because THEIR tools wouldn’t work, I got banned.

How long am I banned for? According to their own site:

Please note that these blocks are temporary, and may last anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

We’ve tried everything we can think of to get around this. I’ve logged in as my clients in order to work their pages, I’ve tried different computers, different IP addresses, different admins, everything. If there might be something I’ve missed, please feel free to educate me. For now, I’m beyond my creative solving problem solutions, and am resigned to having to wait until this is resolved.

Of course, there’s no “real person” behind Facebook so I can’t even plead my case.
